Amazing Race Night
Last night we had our first Leading and Loving It gathering for our Pastor/Director staff ladies and wives. And … oh my word … it was fun.
Here is a little run down of our night. We started off with appetizers and desserts from around the world. Check out these awesome decorations by my great friend, Lisa. This picture just doesn’t do it justice.
Then we broke up into teams of 4 and started our “Race.” The first clue sent everyone to our worship offices in hunt of hidden chess pieces. Unfortunately, the worship staff will probably be finding chess pieces for a few months because I couldn’t remember where I hid all of them. Once they found the chess pieces, they got their next clue. They ran down to one of our kids’ room and had to complete a 100 piece puzzle.
After that, the real fun began. They got the next clue and ran to our cafe and bookstore in search of books with clues in them. Once they got that clue, they encountered a “Road Block.” One person from each team had to eat a bite of some gross food. They ate chocolate covered espresso beans, tofu, and sardines. And since we aren’t too mean, they got to eat a bit of an apple to help with that nasty taste.
They grabbed their clue and went running into our auditorium. There they had to count chairs on the front floor. Once they had their number, they entered it into a lock box. (1746, that’s lots of chairs people) If the number was correct, the box would pop open and give them their next clue. If not … they started counting again.
Their last clue led them back to our starting point where they had to build a house of cards using the whole deck. The first team done won movie tickets.
We had a blast. Here were some of my personal new instights: We had someone that had to break out the inhaler. We have some majorly competitive people around Central. A gathering of racing women can amazingly be just as noisy as 200 dodgeball playing Jr High students. And my momma might have gotten on to us with all of our running and yelling in a church.
After our race, we broke up into smaller groups. We had a time of chatting and getting to know each other a little better. Then we got to pray for each other, for our ministries, and for the church. Our group time was really special to me.
I’ll post some additional pictures next week once I get them from my friend, KIm. We’ll have another Leading and Loving It gathering in a few months. And while I won’t give away our fun plans yet, I will say … get your platform shoes and converse high-tops ready!
