Hot, Hot, Hot…
Posted by Brandi Wilson
Last Thursday Tiffany shared some tips on how she manages home and ministry. I have to say that I love seeing other people’s routines and gaining insight on what works for their family.
In fact, the best tip I’ve received recently was actually a comment left on this blog by Andie. A few weeks back I talked a little about balance and how that works for my family. Andie commented and said,
“Growing up my mom always told me the woman is the thermostat of the home. She sets the “temperature.” So as I’m peaceful, my home is relatively peaceful.”
I’m a super visual gal, so viewing my attitude, actions, and responses as a thermostat really spoke to me when I look at the impact I make on my family. And honestly, I can’t count the number of times I have watched it happen. Unfortunately my frantic, loss of control, rise in temperature attitude can filter down to my family a little more quickly than my calm as a cucumber attitude!
So, Andie, thank you for your piece of advice. You have no idea how many times the last few weeks I’ve tried to gauge if I’m a cool, refreshing 72 or rising up to hit a blazing 99!

Ohh, I’m a visual person also. I soo get what you just said! Now I’m going to be checking my gauge!

I hear ya. I had heard this before too. And it is so true. So now I try to make a concerted effort to have the house calm and in control when he gets home, especially from council meetings. And, like you, I can look back and see where me escalating has made the whole night miserable for us all. It is hard to do, but worth it!!

Thank you for pointing this out. We are trying to get into our new routine of after school craziness, football practice, Awana, piano lessons, homework, etc.
Thank you! Thank you!

Great advice and visual! Scary, challenging, and awesome how we set the tone for our families!

This is a great image to keep in mind! I think right now I’m running at about 90 degrees all the time…rushing and getting huffy much more often than keeping things cool. That’s definitely not the “temp” I want to set in our home. Thanks for this, sweet friend!
