Dreamin'

May 12, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

window and skyI’ve finally gotten my brain back after Catalyst West. I had major brain overload during the two days of the conference. So, I’m finally ready to start reflecting on some of the things I picked up.

Here is one from Erwin McManus’ talk:

All of us have dreams inside that will only come to fruition in community … when we care more about the dreams of others than we do even for our own dreams.

For the most part, I feel like I am living my dream. I have a fabulous family. I am getting to serve God and make a difference with people. But there are a few unfulfilled dreams out there:

1. I have this book idea rolling around in my head. I don’t know when I’ll get started on it … maybe next year when my little Kindergartner is headed off to school. I don’t know. I’m hesitant and nervous, so I’ll definitely think I’ll need lots of spurring on to get it done. To be honest, I’m not even sure I can do it. But I want to give it a try.

2. I want to do some stuff with conferences for pastor’s wives. Probably nothing like what you are thinking. Something totally different, really. But I’m hoping to get some more info out on that semi-soon.

How about you? What are your dreams? How can we encourage you, in community, to go after those dreams?

Tis the Season

May 11, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

… for gift giving. So, of course I want to hear what you got for Mother’s Day this weekend.

Here is what I got:

photoEthan made me that cute little bobble head of himself in the back. He also painted that dragonfly tile.

Emma made me the giant rose and the card. The best lines in the card: “I’m going to cry because I love you so much!” And, “I wouldn’t trade my mom for a swimming pool.” Now, that’s saying something, people.

Together the kids picked out that amazing wallet. Isn’t it the coolest?! Jud also took me on a little shopping spree and to lunch. He knows what I love!

Lastly, the kids brought the little note and three quarters in a zip lock bag to me at the end of the night. The note said: “I love you mom. The first coin is for your trust. The 2 is for your love. The 3 coin is for us to love you! Keep the coins.”

So, what did you get, moms? What did you give the ladies in your life, guys?

Happy Mother's Day

May 9, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

Happy Mother’s Day to our wonderful moms.

My mom is great!  Tiff says you can really tell if I’ve just talked to my mom on the phone, because my accent comes back. She can cook. She can sew. Heck, she is a regular Martha Stewart. Most of all though, she is a prayer giant. I love that about her; I admire that about her!

Jud’s mom turned 80 this week. Happy Birthday, Nana! Imagine having all of your kids in high school, only to find out that you had another little surprise on the way. She could not be more supportive or encouraging of Jud. My favorite thing about her is her laugh. She has a special joy that overrides everything else.

Enjoy your mother’s day. Get your family to spoil you a little bit. You deserve it!

What's Your Flavor … Sci-Fi

May 8, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

star_trek_poster1Tonight Tiff and her husband, Tom and Jud and I are going to see this ultra exciting movie … Star Trek. I’m super pumped about it. Why? Because I am a total Sci-Fi loving nerd! And proud of it.

My Star Trek love comes from my dad. But my main Trekkie obsession is “The Next Generation.” Those Borgs really freak me out. I made Jud take me to that movie on our honeymoon. That’s love, baby!

But my love-o-Sci-Fi and all things fantasy doesn’t end with Star Trek. We are also pumped about Terminator in a few weeks. I love almost every super hero movie. (We saw Wolverine Sunday.) Tiff and I watched Battlestar Galactica faithfully. I totally watch all of the Sci-Fi freaky shows on TV: Fringe, Heroes, Dollhouse, Terminator, etc. And, let’s not forget Twilight. It is all SO good.

How about you? To Sci-Fi or not to Sci-Fi? And will you be seeing the awesome JJ Abram’s Star Trek in theaters?

Baptism Celebration by Video

May 7, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/4532869?pg=embed&sec=]

Here is the recap video celebrating the baptisms at Central. We had the pools at the Henderson Campus and the troughs at the Summerlin and Southwest Campuses.

Extra points if you can spot me and the 1.2 seconds of me clapping and crying. Luckily I had my sunglasses on to hide my messed up mascara.

The family at the end was amazing. The dad is in a wheelchair because he has one leg. We offered to use the inside baptistry since it would be easier to get in and out of. But he declined because he wanted to be outside with everyone else. So with the help of two muscle-bound friends, he grimaced up and down each of the steps and into the pool. He was baptized with his wife, their daughters and their friend. I stood at the edge holding one of their younger daughters while she blew kisses to her mommy and daddy. And I bawled … like a baby.

What’s your baptism story?
