iBible

This video was made by Tripp and Tyler, Jud’s co-hosts at Catalyst. It was a huge hit a Catalyst West. Not only are Tripp and Tyler stinking hilarious, but they are truly great people with a great heart for God and ministry.

I take the world’s biggest NLT Notemaker’s Bible to church. I love it. I have to take my computer bag to lug it around. But it has huge margins and tons of note taking space. I love it.

What do you take to church with you? Thin line? Life Application? Pocket-sized? YouVersion on your iPhone? iBible, anyone?

You Asked Pt 14

May 6, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

Someone asked me last week: “How many pot-luck dinners do you cook for each week?”

My best guess is that this question came from someone who knows me way too well.

There is one reason why you will never see a recipe on this blog: I AM NO COOK!

The world is a better place since I try to participate in as few pot-lucks as possible. I will inflict my cooking on my family … but I try not to do that to other people. So, if I ever have to take something to a party or pot-luck, I always sign up for dessert and do a little purchasing at one of my favorite places. I can purchase some extra yummy desserts. Oh, and I like to be in charge of drinks. Bring on the two-liters.

If we have people over for dinner, we are all about take-out. We live right down the street from some of the best take-out restaurants … Lucille’s, Cheesecake Factory, and PF Changs.

So that is how I roll. What about you? Do you do pot-luck type events at your church? Are you a cook or a purchaser?

Love Letters … Already?!?!

May 5, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

lovenoteLast week when I picked Ethan up at preschool, I found this note in his cubby. Of course I immediately asked him about it. This was our conversation:

Me: Hey bud, is this yours?

Ethan: No!

Me: It has your name on it. Did someone make it for you?

Ethan: I don’t know. Does that say I love you?

Me: Yes, yes it does.

Ethan: What does that R-to-the-L say?

Me: That says Raquel.

Ethan: Humph (with a shoulder shrug)

Obviously he is unimpressed. Thank goodness. I’m not quite ready for all of that. Although I should add, Raquel is a completely precious little girl. Precious.

How old were you when you sent or received your first love letter?

What a Weekend!

May 4, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

baptism1This weekend we had two wonderful days of Baptism Celebration. We weren’t exactly sure what to expect. We prayed like crazy and made tons of preparations with the hopeful expectation that God was going to continue the work that He has already been doing here in Vegas. We’ve seen so many people come to faith in the last few months. This was our weekend to help work through all of the obstacles that were hindering people from taking the step of baptism in their lives.

baptism3In one word … OVERWHELMING. I spent the last two days weeping and stuttering trying to find words to describe what God was doing.

I can’t even begin to share the stories I heard about God moving in peoples’ lives. But one thing was very easy to see … it was incredibly evident how heart felt this was for people. So many joyful tears, and hugs, and hands raised in the air. It was real … and it was God. Only God.

Since I don’t really know what to say, I’ll just say this:

We are so thankful to God for the 1458 people who followed Jesus in baptism at the Central campuses this weekend! Thank you, Lord!

Please pray for us as we help these people continue on the journey of faith.

Book Discussion – These Is My Words

May 1, 2009 by Lori Wilhite

these-is-my-words** SPOILER ALERT: This is a book club discussion of These is My Words.  If you haven’t read the book and don’t want anything spoiled for you, you probably shouldn’t read this post or its comments. There are bound to be spoilers lurking around here somewhere, so proceed with caution.**

My name is Tiffani.  I LOVE to read, and some of my favorite books are historical fiction.  I’ve never led an online book discussion group, so bear with me.  I will start by giving you a few impressions I had as I was reading These is My Words, then ask some questions that I’ve been thinking about.  I’ll check back throughout today to respond to any comments that come in.  Keep checking and responding to keep our discussion alive!

First off, for a grammar geek like myself, this book was difficult to even order, must less open and read!  A close friend of mine was adamant that I would love it, so I persevered through the errant “is” and found a treasure of a story.

When I read about Sarah’s early life and her family’s journey to Arizona, my first thoughts were something like, “I’m such a wimp!  I can’t imagine doing stuff like this.”  But sometimes, as I’m in the midst of the busyness of my life, I wonder if life would be simpler in some ways if we were more concerned with survival at its most basic form.  Getting my son to soccer practice seems so ridiculous compared to fighting off Indians.  Is there a “toughness” to people today?  Or am I really as wimpy as I think?

Besides her spirit of survival, I thought Sarah’s thirst for education was her defining trait.  Do you have that thirst?  What do you do with it?

I loved the relationship between Sarah and Jack Elliot.  They knew and respected each other for so long before their love grew to fruition.  How did their experiences color their marriage?  How long did you know your spouse before you got married?  Were you friends first?

What stood out to you as you read These is My Words?  What experiences have you had that helped you relate to the characters in the story?
